CBERD is a multi-university Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) for Bioenergy Research and Development (CBERD). The center is comprised of five universities, and is focused to make transformative discoveries to enable the lignocellulosic and fats and oil based bio-industries meet the challenges set forth by the US President, federal and state agencies and the American public. Research is highly consistent with federal agency roadmaps.

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING IAB MEETING

Registration for the 2010 Spring Industrial Advisory Board Meeting is now open.  You must be affiliated to CBERD (member company or faculty from a site university, or an invited guest)  to attend.  The meeting will be held on Friday, April 23 at the the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Clearwater Beach, Florida.  The IAB meeting will be held immediately following the 32nd Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals, held April 19-22, 2010 at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort about one mile away from the Holiday Inn.

Spring 2010 Industrial Advisory Board Meeting - CBERD's next IAB will be held in Clearwater, Florida immediately following the 32nd Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals to be held on April 19-22, 2010.  Members of CBERD and faculty attending the Spring meeting are urged to register for this event.

US Drafts Plan to Boost Use of Biofuels - Washington.  WASHINGTON—A group created by US President Barack Obama outlined a broad agenda Wednesday for ensuring that the country increases the amount of biofuels used in cars, trucks, and airplanes. - excerpted from the Wall Street Journal.

Cellulosic Ethanol Sector Will Not Meet 2010 Mandate - According to the U.S. EPA, the cellulosic ethanol industry is expected to produce 6.5 million gallons of the advanced biofuel this year, short of the 100 million gallons mandated by Congress.  Analysts cite the recession and credit crunch in 2008 and 2009 for hindering the growth of cellulosic ethanol.

Obama Administration White Paper -  Obama administration's white paper on "innovation for sustainable growth and quality jobs"  enunciates the need to develop renewable energy strategies in the biofuels area as a top priority in our nation's drive for economic recovery and sustainable growth (see website).

Presidential Directive - On May 5, 2009, President Barack Obama announced that his administration is taking several steps to advance biofuels research and commercialization. The president signed a Presidential Directive to help preserve biofuel industry jobs and to establish the Biofuels Interagency Working Group, which will develop the nation’s first comprehensive program for growing the biofuels market. The President also announced that DOE will release $786.5 million in Recovery Act funds to accelerate advanced biofuels research, development, and deployment (see website).

EPA Announcement - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for the federal Renewable Fuels Standard (see website). The EPA proposal outlines the agency’s strategy for increasing the supply of renewable fuels.

United States Recovery Act - Nearly $800 Million has been made available from the Recovery Act to Accelerate Biofuels Research and Commercialization (click here for further information).
